Leicestershire LEP celebrates successful sell-out of sustainability licences

Leicestershire and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has successfully closed its Get Zero Get Zellar programme, with Market Harborough RUFC becoming the 100th local business to sign up.

The local business community has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm, underscoring their commitment to sustainability and net zero goals.

Leicestershire and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Business Gateway Growth Hub acquired 100 licences as part of the Get Zero Get Zellar initiative. These licences were distributed to local businesses across various sectors, ranging from wholesale trade to manufacturing. The programme has reached full capacity, reflecting the region's dedication to sustainable practices.

Zellar, the pioneering online sustainability platform, has emerged as a key ally for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in navigating their sustainability path. By simplifying the calculation of carbon emissions and aiding the development of practical net zero strategies tailored to each business's size and sector, Zellar has become an indispensable tool. Notably, businesses leveraging the platform stand to unlock substantial cost savings, with an average potential of over £4,000, alongside a remarkable reduction in energy consumption exceeding 30% per business.

Across the spectrum of the 100 participating businesses from the LLEP area, impressive strides have already been made. An encouraging 3% reduction in energy consumption, coupled with annual CO2 savings of 3.8%, has collectively resulted in cost savings of £164,465. These businesses have demonstrated their commitment by investing £785,781 in green technology and dedicating an impressive 1,200 hours to volunteering efforts. Read more here

Neil McGhee, LLEP Board Member and Low Carbon Champion, commented on the significance of the programme, stating, "Giving local businesses the tools to move towards sustainability is just one of the ways we are working towards Net Zero and carbon reduction goals.

We are supporting many local businesses towards 2030, and helping 100 of them to monitor energy usage is one practical way for businesses to plan and take action.

In being armed with the data to track outcomes, businesses are better placed to reduce their emissions and continue making improvements.”

Gary Styles, founder of Zellar said, “It’s really inspiring to see LEPs champion businesses on their sustainability journey and to witness the engagement from the businesses themselves. While Leicestershire may be the first region to sell out, I’m confident that this is just the start.”
