Putting sustainability first and creating a zero carbon Manchester by 2038

Why Manchester?

Last year, small and medium-sized businesses in Manchester produced the highest combined gas and electricity emissions of anywhere in the UK.

With the city’s pledge to reach carbon zero by 2038 and rich history of driving change, we’re working with the business community to help Manchester get there even faster.

Manchester is committed to climate change. It’s a city of firsts and has set out an environment plan to tackle climate change and adopt a Net Zero carbon approach by 2038, as laid out in the Manchester Zero Carbon Framework.(1)

Manchester’s sustainability targets

15m tonne carbon
